Puʻuloa: The Premier Hawaiian Band for VA, Richmond & East Coast Events. Authenticity in every note!
Suzie Kiese is a talented flutist, piccolo player, sound engineer, and dedicated music educator who is an essential member of Puʻuloa Hawaiian Band both on stage and behind the board.
A former U.S. Army Band musician with over a decade of service, Suzie performed as a flutist with concert bands, marching bands, and woodwind ensembles throughout the United States and Europe. She also served as Music Director, overseeing rehearsals and producing memorable performances for thousands of students and audiences.
Suzie holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from SUNY Fredonia (2007) and an Associate of Science in Music from SUNY SCCC (2005). She currently teaches elementary general music (PreK-5) and adaptive music classes in Chesterfield County Public Schools, where she designs engaging, inclusive lessons using Orff, Kodály, and Dalcroze methods aligned with Virginia Standards of Learning. She is also a private flute and piccolo instructor.
In Puʻuloa, Suzie brings her beautiful flute and piccolo playing to our Hawaiian arrangements while serving as the band’s primary sound technician. She runs sound for our shows, ensuring every performance is perfectly mixed and balanced so the audience experiences the full warmth and authenticity of our music.
Her professionalism, positive energy, attention to detail, and deep love of music make her invaluable to the band. When she’s not teaching or running sound, Suzie enjoys singing in her church choir and supporting her husband Mike’s musical journey. She is a proud member of the National Association for Music Education.
Mahalo nui loa, Suzie, for your beautiful playing, expert sound work, and Aloha spirit!
